Aloha Golf Club: members' golf pedigree in Nueva Andalucía's Golf Valley

← Back to blog

Why Aloha Golf Club still feels different from the rest of Golf Valley

Aloha Golf Club sits in Nueva Andalucía, the part of Marbella most golfers call Golf Valley. You are close to Puerto Banús, the Golden Mile and several famous neighbouring clubs, yet Aloha does not feel like a resort course built for passing traffic. Its identity is older, more club-led and much more rooted in membership culture.

The course is a Javier Arana design, widely regarded as his final work, and it opened in 1975. It is an 18-hole, par-72 layout with clear pedigree: mature trees, gently rolling ground, water that influences decisions and the settled atmosphere of a club that was built for long-term golfing life rather than first-impression theatre.

How the course actually plays

Aloha is not mountain golf and it is not flat parkland either. The routing moves across natural folds in the ground, so you keep getting subtle changes in stance, angle and elevation without the exhausting climbs some inland courses impose. Stronger players can attack lines and flags, while sensible visitors can still enjoy the round if they respect the strategy.

Water is not decorative here. It shapes several key holes, mature planting gives the course definition and privacy, and the green complexes reward placement more than guesswork. It is a layout that usually gets better on a second or third round.

Aloha feels like a club for golfers who value pedigree, repeat play and atmosphere more than easy access or flashy resort theatre.

Javier Arana pedigree, tournament history and where Aloha fits in Golf Valley

There is real architectural weight behind Aloha. Javier Arana is one of the defining names in Spanish golf-course design, and Aloha is regularly described as his last completed project. That matters because the course still carries his signature traits: strategic rather than brutal golf, attractive but playable shaping, and a routing that rewards thought more than sheer force.

The club also has tournament credibility. Its history includes the Spanish Amateur Championship in 1978, the Open de Andalucía on the European Tour in 2007, 2008 and 2012, plus the Ladies Spanish Open in 2016 and 2019. While Aloha is not the Golf Valley club most associated with the World Cup of Golf - that usually points toward nearby Real Club de Golf Las Brisas - it clearly belongs in the same championship conversation. Together with Los Naranjos Golf Club, it helps explain why Nueva Andalucía's golf reputation runs deeper than simple resort branding.

  • Choose Aloha if you want a mature course with personality rather than a generic premium product.
  • Choose it if Javier Arana's architectural pedigree matters to you.
  • Choose it if you prefer the atmosphere of a members' club to a visitor conveyor belt.

Visitor access, green fees and facilities in practical terms

The key practical point is honesty: Aloha is a members' club first. Visitor access is more limited than at public-resort courses or even some Golf Valley neighbours, so if playing it matters to your trip, contact the club well in advance and do not assume easy online booking.

That also affects green-fee transparency. Aloha is not marketed as bargain golf, and when non-member times are released they sit in Marbella's premium bracket. People pursue this course for pedigree and club character, not for discounted tee times.

Facilities beyond the round

The supporting facilities are strong. Aloha's practice setup includes a driving range of almost 300 metres, two putting greens near the first tee, a substantial chipping area with bunkers and a private par-3 course for short-game work and junior golf. The club also offers private and group tuition.

Off the course, the clubhouse remains central to the experience, with a pro shop, restaurant and notably well-regarded changing rooms with sauna and relaxation space. For the wider area comparison, start with our Costa del Sol golf overview, then compare Aloha with Las Brisas, Los Naranjos and Magna Marbella Golf. That quickly shows why Nueva Andalucía remains one of the most practical golfing bases within easy reach of Málaga Airport.
