Why Málaga-city families keep this school on the shortlist
The British School of Málaga is a strong option for families who want a British curriculum without basing daily life around the Marbella-Fuengirola school belt. The campus is in Cerrado de Calderón at Centaurea, 8, 29018 Málaga, close to the A-7 and about fifteen minutes from the city centre.
This is a day school for ages 3 to 18, not a boarding campus and not a rural resort-style school. Its attraction is practical: children can stay in one system from Nursery to Year 13 while parents keep the advantages of a city base.

What the academic route looks like
The stage map published by the school is straightforward: Early Years, Primary, Secondary for ages 11 to 15, and a real Sixth Form for ages 16 to 18. That matters because some international schools feel strongest in the younger years; BSM clearly presents the senior stage as part of its core offer.
In Secondary, students prepare for IGCSE examinations. The school says Key Stage 4 includes core subjects plus options such as Business, Media Studies, Humanities and Arts. Spanish students continue Lengua Castellana y Literatura, History and Geography, which helps maintain continuity toward ESO recognition and keeps a bridge to the Spanish system.
In Sixth Form, students move on to A Levels and can also add the Spanish elements needed for Bachillerato and university-access certification if they plan to apply in Spain. That means the normal route here is IGCSE to A Level. Families asking about the IB route should note that BSM is not presented as an IB Diploma school; if IB is the goal, compare it with our Costa del Sol international schools guide and then look at schools such as Swans International School or Aloha College Marbella.
Campus and facilities
The school describes a four-building campus with each block linked to a stage of the learning journey. The Foundation building has nursery and reception spaces, terraces and outdoor play areas. The Primary building, used from 2024, has four floors, its own playground and a multi-purpose sports hall with retractable seating.
Older students use a Secondary building with spaces for Music and Radio, Computer Science, Science, Art and Media. Sixth formers have their own building with interactive screens, multi-purpose classrooms, outdoor areas and a study room.
Beyond class time, the current site points to sports, arts, after-school activities and ISP opportunities such as Model United Nations, cultural exchanges, changemaker projects and virtual exchange. For children arriving after an international move, those programmes can matter almost as much as the timetable.
Languages, support and school community
BSM presents itself as an English-immersion school with Spanish integrated throughout and French or German available in secondary. It also has an English as an Additional Language team for students who need help settling into an English-medium classroom. According to the multilingualism page, the community includes more than 50 nationalities and over 25 languages, which is reassuring for families who do not want their child to be the only newcomer.
Transport, fees and who it suits best
The transport page currently lists seven bus routes covering Málaga, Benalmádena, Nerja, Añoreta, Alhaurín, West Málaga and a local late line, with a monitor on each bus. Published 2026/27 tuition starts at €8,780 in Nursery and Reception, rises through primary to about €9,980, reaches roughly €10,680 to €11,650 in Years 7 to 11 and stands at €12,050 in Years 12 and 13. New families should also note the currently published €1,100 registration fee and €1,100 annual enrolment fee.
