La Quinta Golf & Country Club: flexible 27-hole golf on the Benahavís-Marbella border

← Back to blog

Why La Quinta still matters in Marbella's Golf Valley

La Quinta Golf & Country Club sits on the Benahavís-Marbella border above Nueva Andalucía, close to Puerto Banús and San Pedro but quieter and more residential than the best-known Golf Valley addresses. That mix of convenience and calm is the club's main selling point.

La Quinta is also open to visitors, integrated with the Westin hotel and built around a 27-hole format that encourages repeat play. For a wider trip, begin with our Costa del Sol golf overview, then compare it with Los Naranjos Golf Club, Aloha Golf Club and Real Club de Golf Las Brisas.

Three nines instead of one repetitive resort round

San Pedro, Ronda and Guadaiza make repeat play easier

La Quinta's biggest advantage is simple: it does not trap you in one fixed 18-hole loop. The club uses three separate nines that can be combined in different ways, so the experience changes naturally over several rounds. That is valuable for holidays, mixed-ability groups and owners who plan to play often.

  • San Pedro: usually the more tactical nine, where placement matters.
  • Ronda: the scenic loop with more elevation change and wider views.
  • Guadaiza: commonly treated as the strongest or sternest section of the three.

Some Marbella clubs win on pedigree or exclusivity. La Quinta wins on usability.

The design story: Piñero first, García Garrido in later updates

Most public references present La Quinta primarily as a Manuel Piñero course, and that is still the right headline. His strategic, playable approach suits the hillside setting, the visitor market and the club's long-term role inside a residential resort environment.

At the same time, local golf directories mention later remodelling and technical upgrades and also associate some of that work with Antonio García Garrido. The best way to read the course today is as a Piñero original refined over time, which helps explain why it has hosted senior and women's professional events while staying accessible to ordinary travelling golfers.

La Quinta is not the most intimidating name in Golf Valley, but it is one of the easiest good courses to enjoy more than once.

Westin integration and the La Quinta residential area

The Westin relationship is central to the club's identity. Golfers can combine tee times, practice, dining and downtime without constant transfers, which makes La Quinta especially appealing for short luxury breaks and mixed golf-and-non-golf trips.

The surrounding La Quinta residential area is a mature hillside community of apartments, townhouses and villas wrapped around the course. For buyers, the attraction is regular golf access, hotel services and calmer surroundings than the busiest parts of Nueva Andalucía.

Green fees, visitor access and facilities

Visitor-friendly by Marbella standards

La Quinta is far easier to book than some of the more club-like names in the area. Current third-party rates sit around €120 for 18 holes and €76 for 9 holes, with buggy and hire extras separate. Those numbers move with season and tee time, but they place La Quinta in the upper-mid resort band rather than the extreme premium bracket.

  • Practice: twin-level driving range, putting greens and short-game areas.
  • Coaching: an academy with lessons and resort-friendly instruction.
  • Services: pro shop, restaurant, buggy rental, club hire and hotel support next door.
  • Logistics: easy to combine with Los Naranjos, Aloha, Las Brisas and other Marbella rounds.

From Málaga airport, expect about 66 km and roughly 45 to 50 minutes by car in normal traffic. For long weekends, that makes La Quinta one of the easiest premium golf bases to use.

Who La Quinta suits best

If you want the most traditional club atmosphere in Golf Valley, Las Brisas or Aloha may have more of that feel. If you want a sterner tournament-style test, Los Naranjos may be the comparison. La Quinta is different: repeat-play golf, practical access, hotel integration and a strong link to the wider La Quinta lifestyle area.

That is why it remains one of the smartest all-round options on this stretch of coast.
